Today was an unusual day for me. I became a part of the "ladies who lunch" crowd. Anyone who knows me well, knows I don't like going out to lunch. I'm not sure why. I think part of the reason is because I love eating dinner with my husband so much, that I'm scared I may spoil my appetite. (I know, I'm trying to lose weight, yet I'm scared I won't be hungry.) Hmmmm. Wonder why I'm overweight! So I went to lunch in Santa Monica with two long time friends. We had so much fun catching up that food was definitely not the center of attention. We went to a great restaurant called Fig. We all ordered the fish tacos, which were appetizer size, but delicious. (Corn tortilla, not fried) I declined dessert, but then the three of us decided to share a fruit plate. It was a perfect lunch, and yes, I was still hungry for dinner.

I have discovered a new taste treat that is good for me. How this drink has been around for over 2,000 years, and I had never heard of it is beyond me. My friend, Dina, a coworker, introduced me to this effervescent tea and promised me miraculous results. She said I will feel healthier, have more energy, and feel less likely to overindulge in my eating. It is naturally fermented and is probiotic. It's a delicious carbonated tea that produces vitamins, antioxidants, and healthy enzymes. At just 35 calories a serving, I think I may have found a perfect elixir to good health! Cheers!

I went to Whole Foods after work to pick up an easy and diet friendly dinner. I was pretty hungry and everything looked good. (Except the tofu) Tony wanted me to pick him up a sandwich and a bag of chips. I find it quite embarrassing to have potato chips in my basket at Whole Foods. Despite my discomfort, I did as I was told, determined to find something healthy and nutritious for me. I decided I couldn't go wrong with the beets. They are ascetically pleasing on my plate and delicious as well. I am making a big green salad to go with it. Monday night down........the rest of the week to go!

Sunday is not the day to start a diet. But, truth be told, I didn't do too bad. I am positive the key to doing well on a weight loss plan is starting with a good breakfast. Thank goodness I had delicious sweet cantaloupe in my refrigerator. It was very easy to start the day right! I may not have been perfect throughout the day, but I was better than I would have been had I not started with a healthy breakfast of fruit and eggs. I am excited to start the week off with a new resolve to lose weight and get healthier!

Greetings from Patti's Plate!
It appears it is impossible for me to lose weight unless I have an audience watching every bite I eat. It takes a lot of energy to write every day. I haven't written in well over a year. During this time, I have regained most of my weight, and I have been reluctant to spend much time in my kitchen. I seldom plan my meals, and usually decide on "take out" about 5 or 6 at night.
The transition of feeding a family of five to cooking for two is strange. You'd think it would be easier, but for me, it's not. It seems silly to buy a bunch of groceries, when food will only be consumed by two people. I could be satisfied making a salad every night, but my husband isn't as easily pleased. It doesn't seem fair that just because he doesn't have a weight problem he should have to suffer. So, I usually take dinner as an opportunity to share something that is probably not the best choice for me. My version of "The Good Wife."
Today is the first day of summer. Let's see if I can make the summer a light and healthier one for me.

Ok, so it's still the season of resurrection. Here I am again. I don't know which is harder; losing weight, or keeping it off. I was doing quite well maintaining my initial weight loss and then Easter came. Lots of food, sweets, and celebration. One day of indulgence turned into another and the next thing I knew I was back to my old ways. So, I am up on the scale and down on myself. It's time again to keep a public record of Patti's plate and rid myself of these extra pounds that I found on my scale this morning.
The long weekend didn't help much. Neither did taking my Mom out for Mexican food.

Good morning, all. I've been on strong antibiotics for the last three weeks. Unfortunately, they made me nauseous and exhausted. The only thing that helped me feel better was eating carbohydrates. And I'm not talking about the good ones either. No, I'm talking about bread, pizza, and flour tortillas. Keeping on a diet has really been the furthest thing from my mind. I had a spider bite on my face that got infected. Since one half of my face was swelling and getting painfully red, I didn't have much desire to leave my house. Most of the time we resorted to food delivery, (pizza) or Tony would pick up sandwiches. One desperate night I made my own flour tortillas for quesadillas. (See picture) The point of my story is that things will happen to interfere with even the best intentioned weight loss plans. I just need to make sure that I go back to healthful eating now that I'm off of the meds.
